On Monday 16th July, judges Mike Garwood and Roger Bache from Heart of England in Bloom Campaign came to visit Tutbury on a very wet day.
They were given a warm welcome at the Dog and Partridge and met members of the Tutbury In Bloom Team over coffee. The judging tour started and ended in the Dog and Partridge on High Street. The tour included Tutbury Museum to meet some of the volunteers who help run it, The Community Garden in Wakefield Avenue, Holts Lane flower beds by the Bus Stop, St Mary’s Priory Church where they were given an update on Tutbury Eco Power by Phil Norris and met Mr and Mrs Nuth who are looking into all the names on the War Memorial in the churchyard. Onto the allotments in Church Road where they met some plot holders, to then drive past the sustainable flower bed at the top of the by-pass. They then visited members of the Green Team at Richard Wakefield School to see how the mini wild flower meadow is progressing and see some of the other projects they have been involved in. The judges finally walked down the High Street to the Dog and Partridge where they met up with members of the In Bloom Team and the Mayor Cllr Len Milner for lunch..
The Tutbury in Bloom Team are hoping all their efforts in the last year have been worthwhile and are looking forward to attending the Awards Ceremony in September to find out how well Tutbury has done.
The Tutbury In Bloom Team wish to thank all the organisations that have supported them for their entry this year. This includes Trent and Dove Housing Association for supplying the mini bus and driver, Tutbury Civic Society for the entry fee, Tutbury Gardening Club for sponsoring the Hanging Basket Competition, Hayes Engineering for the Banners and especially Mike and Julie Butler at the Dog and Partridge for their generous hospitality.
