Tutbury in Bloom continues to impress, nearly every community group here seems somehow to be involved with Bloom. Fantastic floral baskets at the Fire Station and Tolley's bungalow , truly exceptional efforts by Malcolm at the Wakefield Residents Association gardens; Friends of the railway station, Richard Wakefield School….it goes on. Given this year’s commemorations the work of Tutbury War Memorials deserves an extra special mention in regard to the passion they put into their work. All this overseen by Mary Queen of Scots from her vantage point in the imposing Tutbury castle must mean A Gold! Well done
On a warm and sunny day on Thursday 11th September, three members of Tutbury in Bloom, Chairman Cllr Liz Staples, Pat Guest and Sue Norris travelled to Shrewsbury to attend the Heart of England in Bloom Awards Ceremony.
The Awards Ceremony started well with the Volunteers at the Closed Churchyard of the Priory Church of St Mary The Virgin –Tutbury being awarded the Quadron Heart of England in Bloom Grounds Maintenance Award.
This was completely unexpected but pays tribute to the volunteers who have maintained this part of the churchyard and round the War Memorial to a very high standard and is a fitting way of acknowledging all their hard work.
Tutbury in the Small Town Category was awarded Gold for the second year running..
Thanks must be paid to all the community in Tutbury who made the judging day so special and also Members of the In Bloom Team for all their effort over the last 12 months, from litter picks to bulb planting, working parties and attending Team Meetings.
However as usual no one is sitting back, we are already working towards next year. We are always looking for more volunteers and if anyone is interested please come and join us on the following dates.
