Tutbury in Bloom - Judging Day

The morning of the 28th July 2014 was bright and sunny when Members of Tutbury in Bloom welcomed Roger Bache and Nicola Clarke judges from the Heart of England in Bloom Campaign to Tutbury Village Hall.

This is the 4th year that Tutbury has  entered into the Heart of England in Bloom Campaign and Team members are hoping that all their hard work over the last year will result in another Gold, after last years’ successful entry.

The judges were met over coffee by Team Members and after listening to the formal 15 minute presentation given by Liz Staples Chairman, at 10.30 the judges with Liz Staples, Sue Norris and Malcolm Wardle started on the 2 hour tour of the village.

The judges walked along Monk Street to Tutbury Museum in Duke Street where they were met by Jeanne and Robert Minchin. The tour then progressed in the mini bus to Wakefield Community Garden, where the judges were informed about the new plans for the raised beds. Onto to view the flower borders in Holts Lane which are maintained by In Bloom Members. From there the judges were taken along Park Lane, to St Mary’s Priory Church where they met Jane and Rick Nuth who gave an update on the project to preserve the War Memorial in the Church Grounds and the Book of Remembrance they have produced. From here the judges visited Tutbury Castle and then onto a walk around the Allotments, being escorted by Stephen Keene and Terry Screaton. The judges were then driven to Tutbury Fire Station to meet Bill Beck the volunteer who looks after the grounds.

A final tour of the by-pass, Burton Street and High Street noting all the floral arrangements on show before arriving back at the village hall for lunch.

Thanks must go to Tutbury WI for the wonderful lunch they put on and Tutbury Residents Association for Sponsoring the lunch.

The judges were introduced to the Mayor Cllr Ron Clarke and before sitting down were asked to help the Mayor with giving the Certificates and Vouchers to the winners of the Floral Feature Competition which the Mayor had judged on July 15th.

In the Hall were not only the winners and their guests but representatives from over 20 Organisations in Tutbury showcasing what a thriving community Tutbury has.

Liz Staples Chairman said, ‘I would like to thank all the Team members for their hard work over the last 12 months and all the individuals and businesses that have been so supportive of our efforts, in particular our sponsors,

without whose help the day would not have been half as successful’.

The results  will be announced on September 11 th at the Awards Ceremony due to be held in Shrewsbury.
